Letter to The Community
To: the President and the Members of The
Sudanese Community of Greater Philadelphia,
To: the President and the Members of The
Sudanese Community of Greater Philadelphia,
My name is Rian Hamadnalla and I am a Sudanese American here in Philly. First
off, I want to recognize that fact that this community has grown tremendously.
It has become so much more than what it used to be. But there are a few things
I would like to bring to your attention.
Usually when the community has a party or an event, you would normally catch
the teenagers hanging outside the party. Since I am a teenager, I know exactly
why this happens. This happens because there a hardly any activities that we
are involved in which isolates us from the community. I see that we have the
Arabic Class as an alternative and that is good. But, we are the new
generation and we are into different things that you may have never thought of.
But, I don't blame you. It is our right as adolescents of the community to
speak up and tell our ideas. So, I have brainstormed a few things that we can
do to keep us interacted with the community and our culture such as dance
classes, fundraisers, skits (plays)and much more. But ONE HAND CAN'T CLAP! That
means that we all need to work together to make this community a stronger and
better place for everyone. So that all the members can feel as if the community
is a second home.
I know this will take a lot of work and that is why we need a lending hand. I
am definitely willing to participate in the events, especially during the
summer. I also want to take this time out to apologize for not coming to the
Arabic classes but this is because this is the time that I spend at my mother's
home. And I am sure that there are other kids like me who have the same reasons
to why they don't attend. So making a team for the teenagers will also give a
chance for us to meet other fellow Sudanese American teenagers here in Philly.
We need to be united so that we can all stand as one force and
represent the Sudanese Community of Greater Philadelphia!
Sincerely,
Rian Hamadnalla
